The development is a private initiative and is not-for-profit. Around three times a year artists are invited to spend a working period of 2-3 weeks. Invitation takes place by us on the basis of previously made work. We are interested whether a stay can be meaningful for new developments in the artist's work. The spin-off of their stay can be seen on site. For example in terms of modest in-situ works or in a documentation of work that is produced at a later stage elsewhere. The ancient heritage, geology and unique cultural history of the region are an inspiring context. Unsolicited artist submissions can unfortunately not be taken into consideration.

About the architecture of the Künstlerhaus
The form and materials of the new house are informed by the existing barn. It has the same cross profile with thick walls and an anthracite roof. The exterior walls are made of 37 cm thick ceramic bricks (Hohlblockziegel) with hollow canals for insulation. The exterior and interior finishes have a chalk basis to make it possible for the walls to breath witch secures a very good air quality inside. All floors, ceilings and interior walls are made from locally sourced wood (Kiefer) from the forests around Burg Eltz which is approximately 6 km walking distance from Weilermattes, The wood is processed by the local carpenter.
