Weilermattes is a holiday retreat in the Eifel region in Germany. It started as an idea in 2022 and is developed by a dutch couple, Wilfried Lentz a former gallerist from Rotterdam and Carla de Kovel.
The former Bauernhof, is transformed through a heedful renovation of the existing buildings, preserving the old structure and at a later stage adding the new guesthouse. The guesthouse is designed by the Dutch architect Tomas Dirrix and is constructed by small local firms. For a list of participants in the construction click here. The new house was ready at the end of 2025. It forms with the existing compound a pastoral ensemble of houses, outbuildings and several gardens. The existing meadow on the back is partly replaced by a forest garden and runs into an unspoiled stream valley.
A few times a year the new extension functions as artist residence (‘Künstlerhaus’). In 2027 we try to finish the exhibition spaces in the old barn through small interventions in the infrastructure. These spaces are available to our guests during their stay. The complex is located in the little village of Brohl, a few kilometers away from the Moselle river and retains the name ‘Weilermattes’, long used by locals for the old farmstead. Our old farmhouse has many typical examples of a traditional use of wood, stone, clay, decorations and colors but also a pragmatic though interesting reuse of old materials. One time a year there is open house which will be announced through Instagram.
The location is a walking paradise with pilgrim routes, vineyards and renowned destinations in the immediate surroundings. It is easily accessible from the German metropolitan areas and the Benelux.
